Be smarter and safer this Labor Day weekend

On Behalf of | Aug 18, 2025 | Drunk Driving Accidents

It’s hard to believe that we are closing in on the unofficial end of Summer 2025 here in southwest Texas. But it will soon be upon us with its inherent driving dangers after those celebrating consume drugs or alcohol and then try to drive.

Texas implements special campaigns that target impaired drivers. Funded by state and federal grants, the upcoming holiday will see an enhanced police presence on the surface streets and interstates.

Joint efforts of combined agencies

Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) work with city, county and municipal law enforcement agencies to spot and arrest impaired drivers from now throughout the Labor Day weekend.

The deadly cost of drinking and driving

Few people ponder the cost of drunk driving until they become a victim of an intoxicated motorist. First, there are the initial bills to evaluate and treat the injured parties. They may have suffered extensive, even permanently disabling injuries that will require a lifetime of costly care.

Then, you also must consider the economic losses over the injured victim’s lifetime. If they were the family’s breadwinner, the entire family will suffer economically.

Drivers liable for the havoc they wreak

While some accidents are indeed inevitable, drunk driving accidents are 100% preventable all the time. Especially today, with rideshare options like Lyft and Uber, no one should jeopardize others’ lives, limbs and property due to their own recklessness and negligence.

Unfortunately, the criminal justice system often fails to provide accident victims with full justice. Sometimes the offender faces criminal charges or fines, but there are cases where the only path to remedy the situation is through the Texas civil court system.
